Healthy Start
What Does Healthy Start Do?
Healthy Start provides ongoing health care coordination for well-woman, prenatal, postpartum, and infant care, as well as supportive services including outreach, case management, nurse home visiting, father involvement, child development education, parenting support, and linkage to housing assistance, education, and job training programs.
The Goals of Healthy Start:
- Improve maternal and infant health outcomes by providing free education and support for pregnant women and families up to a child’s first 18 months.
- Assist with connecting to community resources such as healthcare, housing assistance, transportation, and childcare.
How It Works:
Women and families living in Union, Ouachita, or Ashley counties in South Arkansas, or Benton, Carroll, Madison, or Washington counties in Northwest Arkansas are eligible regardless of income or number of children.
Once enrolled, you will be assigned a Community Health Worker and Nurse Educator who will provide home visits throughout pregnancy, postpartum, and newborn parenting. Your Community Health Worker will provide supportive guidance, connect you to resources, and answer questions along the way.
Your Nurse Educator will provide health education visits, health screenings, and materials for home health monitoring in pregnancy and postpartum. They will visit you and your baby during pregnancy, after delivery, and remain a resource while enrolled in Healthy Start.
