Home visits are conducted in client homes and typically done solo. Therefore, it is important that home visitors are prepared to protect themselves from potentially dangerous situations, and know how to diffuse, and get away from unsafe circumstances if needed. The safety of a home visitor is as important as the work they do.
*This module contains all new content, so even if you’ve taken the home visitor safety training before, it is highly recommended that you complete this module as well. (Jan 2017)
Upon completion of this training, home visitors will be able to:
- Identify safety strategies that can be used before, during, and after the home visit
- Recognize how to reduce tense situations, what to do in dangerous situations, and how to handle aggression
- Recall safety tips regarding animals, disease, professional boundaries, parking and vehicle safety
- Use technology to help remain safe
