Training in health literacy awareness is essential for home visitors. Families enrolled in home visiting programs should be able to easily understand the public health information distributed and discussed during home visits.
This training will introduce home visitors to the fundamentals of health literacy as well as challenge home visitors to think about the significance of it when working with families. Home visitors will learn how to recognize red flags as indicators of low health literacy. (MOD218) (May 2019)
Objectives
Upon completion of this training, home visitors will be able to:
- Define and describe health literacy
- Understand how it applies to home visitors and the families they serve
- Recognize the consequences of limited health literacy and address barriers families face
- Apply strategies to improve health literacy
