Module Overview

Drug and Alcohol Exposure in Utero What is the Impact on Children & Families

Length: 3-3.5 hours

Each year, an estimated 10-15 percent of infants are affected by substance exposure. Prenatal exposure to alcohol, tobacco, illicit drugs, or prescription drugs has the potential to cause a wide spectrum of physical and developmental challenges for these infants. There is also potential for ongoing challenges if substance use disorders are not addressed. Coordinated services and early intervention for pregnant women is critical in preparing families for optimal bonding, health, and well-being.
